Your Spirit’s Response to Stress

Here’s a list of ways your spirit may respond to stress:

  1. Decreased interest in life
  2. Loss of sense of inner vitality
  3. Decreased hope
  4. Loss of sense of inner calm
  5. Decreased connectedness with others
  6. Loss of sense of connectedness to God or Higher Force
  7. Decreased creativity
  8. Loss of enthusiasm or motivation
  9. Loss of capacity to feel joy
  10. Withdrawal and isolation

When we experience long periods of chronic stress, our spirit is also affected. Recall a time in your life when you were undergoing severe or long-term stress. Did you experience any of the symptoms listed above?

As you can see, these characteristics are fundamental to our core being, to who we really are. We each react to stress in our own unique manner, so it’s important to recognize your own stress symptoms and understand what’s causing them.

Stress is part of life—there’s no getting around it.
But you can minimize its harmful impact on your physical, mental, and emotional being.
